科學家好奇心　殺死一隻507歲蜆

【施旖婕╱綜合外電報導】有隻蜆先後見證大英帝國興衰及經歷兩次世界大戰，悄悄生存了507年，靜觀世界轉變，但7年前被發現後，最被好奇的科學家們給殺死。

英國班戈大學(Bangor University)一名氣候變化專家在2006年挖掘冰島海床時，意外發現這隻蜆，並紀念中國明朝為牠取名「明」(Ming)，再交由科學家化驗。科學家根據蜆殼上的紋理，當時推算牠有405歲，為了研究這隻蜆的年齡，科學家竟強行打開蜆殼進一步研究，讓這碩果僅存的生物當場一命嗚呼。

事隔7年後一名海洋專家再研究「明」的外殼，結果發現牠生於1499年，實際年齡有507歲，遠超出原先的估計。科學家相信「明」是全球最老的生物，以133年之差打破另一隻蜆的紀錄，可惜這隻老蜆遇到人類後，生命便走到盡頭。
